A quick update…

Just wanted to give a quick update.

We have a new niece. She was born this past Sunday at 4:11pm. Everyone is doing well, and they are home now. (Well her big sis has a stomach virus, but other than that everyone is ok.)

The Knight is working on the upstairs. I can’t tell you how nice it is to see actual walls! I have to say I am so proud of him. He comes home from work and goes straight upstairs and starts working. My dad has been helping him when he was had time. I can’t wait to show you some pictures when it is finished!

I have been working in the yard a lot, trying to get things straightened up. I have a lot to do, but it’s coming along nicely one step at a time.

The kids are looking forward to this weekend. Our friend’s need to go out of town for the weekend, so we are keeping their four children from this evening until Sunday. All of the kids are on pins and needles waiting for J,A,B, and N to get here. I just hope everyone has a good time. I am not even going to worry about it. I know there is going to be chaos, as long as it is “Happy Chaos” I’m good! :)

Hope y’all have a great weekend. Talk to you soon!

Parenting is tough…

I am seriously beginning to wonder if someone has stolen my children and replaced them with aliens.

In the last few weeks, tantrums and disrepectful attitudes seem to be more the norm than anything. To say I have hit my limit with it would be a gross understatement. But I just can’t seem to figure out what is going on. I am trying to work on their attitudes though. I think I have done more talking, explaining, fussing, and disciplining with them this month than I have in the last year.  I am really trying to remember this is a season. It will pass. However, I want to handle this in the right way. I don’t want to push them into rebellion.

I’m just going to keep praying, and do the best I can to help them learn to deal with their emotions in more productive ways.

Weekend trip report…

We had an awesome weekend. The Knight called me around lunch on Friday, and said he wanted to surprise the kids and me and take us to the beach for the weekend. He wanted to leave not long after he got home for work. Did I mention that I was running errands, and wouldn’t be home for another three hours?! Well, after the shock wore off, I finished my errands, finished a few other things I had promised my Dad I would help him with, and then finally started packing around 4 something. By 7pm we were packed, reservations had been made, and we were on our way.

The Hotel:

We pulled up at Affordable Family Resort around 10:30. We had the Deluxe Family Suite (around $100/night). It had three queen size beds, and one twin bed, a small kitchen, two bathrooms, and a private balcony on the second floor. For the money I think it was a good value. Our only problem with the room was one of the toilets which was stopped up when we arrived. We called the office, and asked if they could have someone come fix it first thing in the morning, which they did.

The resort is across the street from Compass Cove. It has three water slides, a swimming pool, a large kiddie pool, and a playground. However, the playground seemed rundown, though my children did want to play on some things.

Overall, I think the hotel is a good value, and we would consider staying there again for a weekend trip.

Food:

We have always eaten at least one breakfast at Plantation House of Pancakes in Myrtle Beach. This time though we thought we would try the one in Surfside. It ended up being better than the one we usually go to. It was less crowded, and the booths and tables were nicer. Our service was wonderful as always. We were all happy it was so nice, and we decided from now on, this will be the one we eat at.

For lunch we headed to Pizza Hut in Surfside (the kids had picked it out earlier). We grabbed a couple of coupons from the Monster Book and the whole family ate for around $30. We had two large specialty pizzas and 6 drinks, so that’s not too bad. We arrived a little after 2pm and there was only a couple people there so we were seated immediately. Our waiter was good, and we the food arrived pretty quick. Overall we were very pleased with the food and the service.

We had pizza leftovers in the room that night. So we didn’t eat anywhere else until Sunday morning, unless of course you count the two dozen doughnuts we had to get from Krispy Kreme!

After we checked out, we rode up King’s Hwy. and ate at Sonic for breakfast. I love the bacon, egg, and cheese toaster. I could eat those everyday for breakfast, but I think I’d gain about 20 lbs! We ended up spending around $26, I thought that was pretty reasonable.

What we did:

We woke up Saturday and rode down to Dunes Realty to see if we could look at some of the houses we were interested in renting in September. Amy was absolutely wonderful in helping us. She let us go look at three houses, and was very patient answering all of my questions. After checking them all out, we ended up booking this one. We are pretty happy about it. We can’t wait for September to roll around!

We also took the mandatory trip to Broadway at the Beach, and picked up shoes for almost everyone from Rack Room Shoes and the Totes store. They were having some terrific sales!

The rest of the time we just rode around, and enjoyed hanging out with each other.

This was definitely a relaxing trip, and I enjoyed pretty much every minute of it. Can’t wait to do it again! :)

Is it fair….

I’ve been reading some in a book called The Barbarian Way by Erwin McManus. It’s very thought provoking. He mentions in one section about the passage in Scripture where Peter is asking Jesus something, and Jesus basically answers him by saying, “What’s it to you if John lives forever? You do what I have called you for.”

He made mention that everyone seems to want “The John Plan” where everything goes well and everyone is blessed. But no one wants “The Peter Plan” which is a hard road with suffering. He said the call of God is not fair.

This really made me think. I want the blessings. I want things to be simple. I don’t like anything messing up. I see other people serving the Lord and doing amazing things, and I want what they have.

But maybe I’m not called to go where they are going. Just maybe God has something else for me, and it involves me serving where others have never dreamed.

Maybe life’s not fair…for a reason…

I found this on YouTube, and thought you might like it. You might need to turn up the volume to hear everything though.

You Are Thanksgiving

You are a bit of a homebody who enjoys being in the company of people you love.
It doesn’t take a lot to make you happy. You’re enjoying life as it is.You have many blessings in your life, and you are grateful for each one.You believe that life is about what you *do* have. You feel like you have enough of the good stuff. What makes you celebrate: Family, friends, and the changing of the seasons. At holiday get togethers, you do best as: The host of the partyOn a holiday, you’re the one most likely to: Spend so much energy preparing that it’s a full time job

What Holiday Are You?

Thanks fourjs4him!

Lessons learned…

I’ve had a very educational week. The Professor and the Sports Guy have both been teaching me a lot.

I’m learning about how my children can influence me. I’ve watched the Sports Guy as he has struggled with controlling his temper. I’ve seen him beat himself up over grades, and get so frustrated he’s screamed, “I hate school!” But this past week, I’ve been able to watch him begin to successfully control himself more often. He is beginning to have more confidence in who he is, and know things do not define who he is. I have been so blessed to be able to help him begin to understand self-control better. When I say blessed, I really mean it. As I have had the opportunity to help him, I have also been given chances to exercise that same self control in my own life.

The Professor has really been teaching me about remembering what is truly important. Not only has he been working on controlling himself better, but he has really begun to take his Bible reading to heart even more than usual.

Just watching these two young men grow is such an incredible blessing. I am so thankful I have the chance to spend time with them like I do.
